Headteacher

Grade: Leadership Pay Range LPR18b to LPR 24a (This is a group 3 school)

Salary:  £65699 to £ 78010

Hours:  Full time

Required from:  1st September 2023

Closing date:  12 noon on 2nd March 2023

Proposed interview dates:  23rd and 24th March 2023

Bleasdale School provides for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), some with associated complex needs, ASD (Autism) and challenging behaviours. Following the retirement of our Headteacher, after 13 years of exceptional service the governors are seeking an experienced and ambitious school leader to be our new Headteacher from September 2023.

The school is set in the heart of the beautiful village of Silverdale in North Lancashire in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. With extensive grounds, our sensational facilities include a Sensory Studio, purpose built Rebound Therapy room, wheelchair accessible Outdoor Play Area and a Hydrotherapy Pool. Inspections in 2009 and 2012 judged the school to be Outstanding and in 2017 judged that the school continues to be Outstanding.

The residential provision offered at Bleasdale was awarded Outstanding by the last four annual Ofsted inspections. However, there are currently no residential pupils and, based on current demand, it is anticipated there will be no further requirement for this provision. As such, the local authority is considering a formal consultation about the permanent removal of the residential provision. There is an additional £12,000 residential allowance attached to the post until any formal decision on residential closure is reached.

This is an extremely exciting phase for Bleasdale School and we are looking for an excellent leader who has:

  • strong interpersonal skills and commitment to the provision of pupils with PMLD
  • the passion to ensure high quality provision and continuous improvement
  • vision and drive to lead an exciting phase of the school’s future development

The successful applicant will receive the full support of an experienced and committed governing body and will inherit very positive working relationships with the Local Authority’s School Improvement and Inclusion Services. In addition, a comprehensive package of support is available including Induction to Headship, an experienced HT mentor and an extremely supportive Association of Special School Headteachers. Reasonable relocation costs, or temporary accommodation expenses up to £10,000 are available

If this sounds like the type of challenge you would relish, for more information please go to https://www.bleasdaleschool.lancs.sch.uk. Potential applicants are encouraged to visit, please contact the Leadership Consultant Kairen Dexter on k.dexter@bleasdaleschool.lancs.sch.uk. School’s Education Improvement Adviser David Bird is also available on 01257 516166

Further information is on the Teaching Vacancies page of Lancashire County Council’s website and application forms can also be requested from Elisa Tidman: e.tidman@bleasdaleschool.lancs.sch.uk

Completed applications to be submitted electronically by 12 noon on 2nd March to: e.tidman@bleasdaleschool.lancs.sch.uk

Shortlisting for Interview: 9th March 2023

Proposed interview dates: 23rd and 24th March
