Community
Bleasdale School is very much part of the local community with pupils integrating with their main stream peers. Other community links include involvements with local playgroup, Primary School, Guides, Coffee mornings and involvement in all local organised events.
Wider community links include College access, links with the local High School, supported work experience placements and visits to various community facilities.
Early Years
Class 1 have regular inclusion links with Silverdale Primary school. Once a week pupils from Early Years attend sessions at Silverdale school. These range from PE, art, music and continuous provision. The children attend supported 1:1 by a member of staff. Once a week a small group of Silverdale Primary children, around 6 pupils, attend Bleasdale School for inclusive activities.
Each Tuesday, 1.30 pm- 2.30 pm we hold popular ‘Share a Book’ sessions for preschool children. During these sessions we take part in a range of sensory story play activities.
Primary 1 and 2
Primary pupils work closely with the KS2 department at the local Silverdale Primary School. Presently our pupils and staff host a weekly session, where the children from both schools are encouraged to work and learn together. The children access the National Curriculum, at an appropriate sensory level for Bleasdale pupils and at the KS2 level for their mainstream peers. We explore a range of topics linked to the class theme.
We continue to develop the links set up in the Early Years / KS1 department, meaning that our pupils grow up, play and learn alongside their mainstream peers on a regular basis. Pupils also visit Archbishop Hutton’s School in Warton on a regular basis.
Secondary
Secondary pupils have inclusion links with Morecambe Road School and some of our pupils have been going to access curriculum subjects such as ICT and Food Technology alongside pupils at the school, we are also looking forward to hosting pupils at Bleasdale in the future so that we can work and learn together during inclusion sessions.
The Secondary class also enjoy learning outside the classroom. As part of the curriculum we regularly go out to explore the local community and what shops and services are in the local area and how to use them.
14-16
14-16 students enjoy rebound sessions with pupils at Dallam High School. Each Monday from September to February we spend a hour working with our friends on their trampoline for rebound therapy. We like to explore our Local environment. Each week pupils visit the public library and explore Silverdale shops.
We enjoy learning outside the classroom. This term we are visiting Lancaster and Morecambe College to spend time in their Beauty Therapy department as part of our Leisure and Recreation curriculum.
FE
Students take part in activities following their personal pathway. This could be taking part in community activities or work experience placements. Community activities may include Rebound Therapy alongside 6th form students from Dallam School, use of local leisure such as accessing local holiday park for Rebound sessions. In addition to this pupils take part in regular community shopping trips to local shops to practise their skills learnt in class in a real life and functional environment. Some of our students attended leisure sessions at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre to take part in Adapted cycling.
For those students following the supported employment pathway they take part in supported work experience. They also help run Bleasdale’s cafe – Bleasdale Brews – where they greet customers, prepare drinks and teacakes then take their money.
